Hi, I’m hyon joo.

I was born and raised in South Korea. My upbringing, heritage, and Koreanness are an important part of who I am — just as much as all the trainings and inner work I’ve done over the years.

I’ve explored many body-based trainings, trauma-informed somatic approaches, body–mind integration, and movement practices — a never-ending exploration that continues to fascinate me.

This path reflects my personality — I’m curious, open, and tend to follow the threads that come forward, especially when something resonates in my body, even when it feels unconventional or takes me beyond the familiar.

Working with people from all walks of life — with different histories, conditions, and ways of being — has taught me that we need to be met as whole beings, not as labels or diagnoses. It helps me look beyond the symptoms and make sense of what I am sensing in others and in myself.

Living across different countries has also taught me to pay attention to nuance. It helps me sense what lies beneath language, culture, and the way we live in our bodies. Beneath all of that, we meet each other simply as human beings. Being an immigrant has taught me to listen between the lines, and that sensitivity informs how I attune to each person and the stories their bodies hold.

To be in the presence of someone who sees you as whole is profoundly healing. I’ve felt this myself — whether with a practitioner who saw me as more than a person in pain, or with someone who simply acknowledged my existence in a moment I felt invisible. Those experiences continue to shape how I meet others.

I’m interested in the ways the body expresses what words cannot, and how healing can unfold from within, even when it isn’t obvious on the outside. My approach to somatic embodiment inquiry is held in a non-clinical space, not tied to any single modality, allowing room for creativity, honesty, and exploration of what genuinely supports each person.

I’m fluent in Korean and English and deeply appreciate the diversity and values of both Eastern and Western cultures.
